a good corporate citizen, Hang
Seng supports a wide range
of community sponsorship and
donation programmes.
In 2008, Hang Seng made charitable donations and community sponsorships over HK$23 million.
The Bank's e-Banking customers have made use of the Bank's e-Donation Service to make donations of over HK$16 million to about 60 charitable organisations since the launch of the Service in December 2001.

The Bank donated over HK$1 million to The Community Chest of Hong Kong under the Corporate & Employee Contribution Programme and other fundraising campaigns in the first half of 2009, benefiting 147 social welfare agencies in Hong Kong.

With enthusiastic support from Bank's staff and dollar-for-dollar donation by the Bank, about HK$948,000 was raised for the Chest’s Dress Special Day 2008.

The Bank donated HK$500,000 in support of The Global Dialogue Programme, which is the first joint effort between The University of Hong Kong and Beijing Normal University with the objectives to enhance disaster management in China, to bring academic resources to serve the quake-affected areas and assist the local government officials in Sichuan. |

In 2008, our staff Volunteer Team gave over 11,000 hours of their time to participate in a wide spectum of voluntary activities such as acting as mentors for educational programmes, visiting orphanages and the elderly living alone.

Volunteer activities in 2008 include:
- painting murals at Queen Mary Hospital to bring joy to sick children;
- organising rice transplanting and harvesting activities for the elderly;
- acting as mentors for secondary school students;
- serving Mid-Autumn Festival dinner for the elderly;
- organising Table Tennis Fun Days and various outings for underprivileged children;
- helping out at various environmental activities organised by green groups;
- helping out at flag selling days and fund raising activities organised by charity organizations.
