Education


Education is a central element of Hang Seng's corporate responsibility work. Since 1995, the Bank has allocated near HK$54 million to various scholarship schemes, benefiting over 1,400 students.
 

Major Scholarship Schemes


Hang Seng Bank Hong Kong Scholarships
The Bank has awarded 51 scholarships annually to undergraduate students at 11 local tertiary institutions since 1995.

Hang Seng also offers eight scholarships to students from mainland China to study full-time undergraduate programmes at tertiary institutions in Hong Kong.

Hang Seng Bank Community Service Scholarships
To encourage and recognise young people with outstanding commitment to community service, starting from the 2008/09 academic year, the Bank is allocating HK$400,000 annually to award to 20 local undergraduate students who have contributed a minimum of 100 hours of recognised voluntary service in the past 12 months.

Hang Seng Bank Mainland Scholarships
Every year, Hang Seng offers scholarships to 109 Mainland undergraduate and postgraduate students. The scholarship recipients are selected from 16 Mainland universities.


Other Education Programmes


Ming Pao Student Reporter Programme
To encourage secondary students to nurture social sense and improve their language skills, the Bank has sponsored the Ming Pao Student Reporter Programme since 1999, benefiting over 5,000 students.

Leaders to Leaders Lecture Series 2009
Organised by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups and The University of Hong Kong, the Bank has suppported the series for the first time this year. Under the theme "60th National Anniversary", Hong Kong youngsters will have the opportunity to participate in face-to-face dialogue and share ideas with 10 outsanding community leaders who are highly knowledgeable about the development of mainland China.

Inter Post-Secondary College Debate Competition
To sharpen the minds of the younger generation and encourage students to keep abreast of current affairs, the Bank has sponsored the Competition since 1995.

Hang Seng Bank -- Help the Police Fight Youth Crime Competition
This biennial Competition is organised by the Hong Kong Police Force and sponsored by Hang Seng Bank with the aim of enhancing young people's vigilance against crime. A record number of over 130,000 entries were received in 2008. The Bank has sponsored the Competition since 1994.

Protect Yourself from Crime and Predators On-line Video Competition
To raise youngsters' awareness of on-line crime and to encourage youth to pursue a healthy lifestyle. The Bank supports a video competition bearing the theme "Protect Yourself from Crime and Predators On-line" in 2009 organised by Fight Crime Committee.


Support Programmes for Children with Specific Learning Disabilities
The Bank has sponsored The Pathways Foundation’s support programmes for children with specific learning disabilities since 2007. An Inspiration Day was also organised with the objectives to enhance public awareness of specific learning disabilities and encourage children with such disabilities to showcase their talents.
