Private Car Insurance Plan FAQ


1. If I want to amend my policy cover in the next policy year (e.g. change plan), can I renew the policy online and will I receive any notifications?
2. How can I pay the renewal premium, if I renew Private Car Insurance Plan online?

1. If I want to amend my policy cover in the next policy year (e.g. change plan), can I renew the policy online and will I receive any notifications?
  Any one of the following renewal instructions can be submitted online:
Renew the current policy or the endorsements (if any) of the renewal terms as stated in Renewal Notice;
Change plan (“Comprehensive Insurance Plan” or “Third Party Legal Liabilities Insurance Plan”);
Change the limit of indemnity (only applicable to “Comprehensive Insurance Plan”); and
Change other policy details.

If you choose to amend the policy cover, we will contact you within five working days in order to proceed with your renewal request. After completed the renewal instruction, please be reminded to print the screen or write down the reference no. for your future enquiry.
 
   
2. How can I pay the renewal premium, if I renew Private Car Insurance Plan online?
  If you choose to renew the current policy or the endorsements (if any) of the renewal terms as stated in Renewal Notice, you can choose the following account for settlement of your renewal premium:
(1) Hang Seng bank account/Hang Seng credit card account as stated in the Renewal Notice
(2) Credit card of any issuing authority, and please state the following details:
Name of Cardholder;
Credit Card No. (VISA/JCB/MasterCard only); and
Card Expiry Date

If you choose to change the policy cover, we will contact you within five working days, and we will then request for your premium payment method.
 
   
3. After submitted the renewal application, will the premium be instantly collected?
  If the renewal is successful, the premium will be debited on the policy renewal date. The renewal policy will be mailed to the policyholder once the renewal application is approved and the premium payment is confirmed.
 
   
4. What does the Private Car Insurance Plan cover?
 
(1) The basic protection and service of “Third Party Legal Liabilities Insurance Plan” includes:
Protect the car owner or driver against liability of third party bodily injury, death or property damage while they are using the insured vehicle

(2) The major protection and service of “Comprehensive Insurance Plan” includes:
Basic protection and service of “Third Party Legal Liabilities Insurance Plan”
Cover loss of or accidental damage to the insured car
Annual personal accident insurance of HKD150,000 for the driver(s) named in the schedule
Medical expenses of any accidental injury, arising from an accident involving of the insured vehicle of the insured, driver or passengers of the insured vehicle covering HKD2,000
Unlimited windscreen or car window coverage (if each claim does not exceed HKD5,000, NCD will remain unaffected)
24 hours Repair Approval Service
24 hours Free Towing Service
 
   
5. What is 'No Claim Discount'? Is it transferable?
 
When the proposer has no claim record during the insured period, he/she may enjoy the benefit of 'No Claim Discount' ( NCD ) upon policy renewal.
The NCD can be accumulated up to 60% of the premium as follows:

The NCD Benefit is designed for the proposer and not transferable. However, it may be swapped among the cars registered under the proposer’s name.
 
   
6. Can the number of 'named drivers' be increased?
  Enrol “Comprehensive Insurance Plan”, two named drivers can be registered for each vehicle with no extra premium charged. Proposer may add one to two more named drivers, however, a 10% increase of premium will be charged on each additional named driver.
 
   
7. When nobody is injured during a traffic accident, is it necessary to report it to the police for record?
  According to the 'Road Traffic Ordinance', if a collision with a government property takes place, collision has to be reported to the police for record within 24 hours; if the accident involved other vehicles and it is thought that the other party or parties are liable for the accident, a report and complaint should be made to the police and the related drivers should exchange their and the owners' information including names, contact telephone numbers and registration mark so as to facilitate the claim for damages.
 
   
8. What does the 24 hours Free Towing Service under the Comprehensive Insurance Plan include?
  Apart from towing away the car at no cost, it includes free replacement of burst tire by a spare one and battery re-charge service.
