Technical Tips


This section provides general technical tips on using Hang Seng Mobile Trading. For detailed instructions on operating your mobile handset, please refer to the user guide of your mobile handset or contact your mobile handset manufacturer.

1. Access

 
 
1.1 URL
To access Hang Seng Mobile Trading, enter "https://mobile.hangseng.com" in the URL field of the web browser.
   
1.2 Bookmark
You are advised to bookmark Hang Seng Mobile Trading on your first visit so that you can easily access the website upon subsequent visits.
   
1.3 Access via mobile handsets
If you cannot access Hang Seng Mobile Trading, check whether your mobile handset and browser version are included in our Supported Mobile Handset List.
   
1.4 Access via PC
You cannot access Hang Seng Mobile Trading via your PC.  Hang Seng Mobile Trading is only accessible using a supported mobile handset.
   
1.5 Legitimate website
At the legitimate Hang Seng Mobile Trading website:
- the padlock icon, which indicates encrypted data transfer, will be locked.
- the URL will always start with https://mobile.hangseng.com.
- the certificate will be issued to “mobile.hangseng.com” by Verisign
   
1.6 Log off and timeout
Always log off when leaving Hang Seng Mobile Trading.  For security reasons, your session will be automatically terminated if it is left idle for a certain period of time.
   
1.7 Error message
If you have already accessed and try to re-access Hang Seng Mobile Trading via https://mobile.hangseng.com, you may see the following error message:
          “Error 500: Filter [MCSFilter]: filter is unavailable.”
In this case, you will need to close the browser completely by terminating the browser application in the running program list and then re-open it again in order to re-access Hang Seng Mobile Trading. If this problem persists after closing the browser, please reboot your mobile handset.

For example, for Windows Mobile
 To terminate the browser application
Go to Start > Setting > System tab > Memory
In the Running Programs tab, select “Internet Explorer”
Press [Stop]


2. Connection
 
 
2.1 Internet Connection
Access to the Internet may also involve set-up procedures on your mobile handset for some fixed IP SIM cards. Please check with your telecommunication service provider for details and up-to-date instructions.
   
2.2 Connection speed
The connection speed may vary for different telecommunication service providers, different data usage plans,and different geographical locations.  If you experience a slow response when mobile web browsing or during data transmission, please check with your telecommunication service provider.

For better user experience in using Forex & Gold Margin Trading, you are recommended to use 3G network (or faster), which has better connection speed than 2G network.
   
2.3 Transmission interruption
If you encounter a transmission interruption when you are placing, amending, or cancelling an order instruction/fund transfer transaction, please refer to Order Status (for Securities Trading), Cancel and Enquire Order (for Forex & Gold Margin Trading), or Account Balance (for Fund Transfer) to check whether your instruction/transaction has been received/completed.

2.4 Roaming
GPRS roaming in mainland China may not be available through some telecommunication service providers.  In this case, you can manually select a network.

For example, for Windows Mobile
To select network connection
Tap on the Connectivity icon
Click on Settings in the pop-up box
Change Network Selection to Manual
After the mobile handset returns a list of available networks, select a network
Please check with your telecommunication service provider for details and up-to-date instructions.
   
2.5 Auto-refresh
Some pages such as Real-time Quote (Auto Update) in Forex & Gold Margin Trading will be automatically refreshed after a pre-defined interval. You are recommended to exit these pages after use as it may incur data transfer fee charged by your telecommunication service provider based on the data volume. For details on the data transfer fee, please check with your telecommunication service provider.


3. Page Navigation and Input

 
 
3.1 Language switch
The language displayed on the logon page for Hang Seng Mobile Trading is subject to the default language of your mobile handset.  You can toggle between the Chinese and English versions by clicking on the language icon at the top right corner of the logon page (for the input of Date of Birth) and subsequent pages.
   
3.2 Duplicate clicks of button
Do not press any button twice. After you press a button in Hang Seng Mobile Trading, it may take a while before you get a response, depending on the connection speed and network traffic. If you receive a “duplicate clicks of button or manual reload of screen” system message, you may have submitted the instruction/transaction more than once. If you encounter a transmission interruption when you are placing, amending, or cancelling an order instruction/fund transfer transaction, please refer to Order Status (for Securities Trading), Cancel and Enquire Order (for Forex & Gold Margin Trading), or Account Balance (for Fund Transfer) to check whether your instruction/transaction has been received/completed.

3.3 Font size and view
You can adjust the font size or view option according to your personal preference by changing the settings provided in the browser.
   
3.4 Masked input
Log-on credentials such as Date of Birth and Password are masked with asterisks on the log-on screen.  However, due to the inherent input features of certain mobile handsets (such as non-smartphones), the information that you have input may be displayed for a short while before it is masked.  You should ensure that you take appropriate measures when entering your logon credentials to prevent them from being inadvertently disclosed to anyone else.
   
3.5 "Back" browser button
Avoid using the web browser's "Back" button to go to previous pages. Always use the buttons and links in the website to navigate between pages. Although you may be able to use the ‘Back’ button to return to previous pages, you cannot place securities trading orders or make transfer funds through your account if you have properly logged off Hang Seng Personal e-Banking.
   
3.6 Closing web browser
Closing the web browser will NOT successfully log off your Hang Seng Personal e-Banking session. Always log off by clicking the “Logoff” button on the website.


4. BlackBerry

 
 
4.1 Internet Connection
It depends on the service plan provided by your telecommunication service provider. You may use Internet browser, BlackBerry browser or WAP browser to connect to the Internet. Different data transmission charges may apply. Please check with your telecommunication service provider for details.
   
4.2 Security Padlock
Please check that the security padlock on your Internet browser is "locked" to ensure the connection is secure and protected by SSL. You are advised to continue the logon process only when the security padlock is "locked“. If the padlock is not locked, secure logon and data transmission is not guaranteed. Please check with your telecommunication service provider for details.
   
4.3 Emulation Mode
Upon accessing Hang Seng Mobile Trading, if you find an “IBM WebSphere Portal” page instead of the logon screen of Hang Seng Mobile Trading, please select “BlackBerry” in Options > Browser Configuration > Emulation Mode.
   
4.4 Suggested font type and size
Hang Seng Mobile Trading is best viewed with the following settings:
In Options > General Properties, select:
Default Font Family: BBMillbank
Default Font Size: 8
Minimum Font Size: 8
Minimum Font Type: Normal
