This is our first Corporate Social Responsibility Report,
published online. It provides details of our beliefs, focus
areas and activities as a good corporate citizen.
As a top listed company in Hong Kong, Hang Seng believes
that the most important responsibility we have is to sustain
our business growth. Only by doing this can we continue to contribute
to the long-term development of society and serve our key
stakeholders.
Our business is built on the strong support of the local
communities in which we operate. Involvement in educational,
social and environmental initiatives is one way of sharing
our success with those who helped to create it. It is also
an investment in the betterment of our communities.
Our good corporate citizenship has been recognised both
locally and overseas. In 2001, we became a constituent stock
of the FTSE4Good Global Index, which tracks the performance
of companies that meet internationally recognised corporate
responsibility standards. In 2005, we were named a Caring
Company by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service for the
third consecutive year.
