Bupa MyBasic VHIS Plan (“this Plan”) is a Voluntary Health Insurance Scheme Standard Plan certified by the Food and Health Bureau of Hong Kong. This Plan is underwritten by Bupa and distributed by Hang Seng Bank Limited (“Hang Seng Bank”) as an exclusive banking channel in Hong Kong. Product Features
Cover for your Basic Medical Needs
This Plan covers necessary expenses from Room and Board and Surgeon’s fees to outpatient visits before or after a hospital confinement or day case procedure up to HKD420,000 every year without any limit on the medical expenses you can claim in your lifetime1.
Enhanced Cover Including Pre-existing Conditions
Your policy can cover pre-existing conditions that occurred before enrolment, subject to underwriting and an additional premium. Unknown pre-existing conditions and congenital conditions with symptoms appearing or diagnosed after age 8 are also covered, subject to a waiting period2.
Guaranteed Renewal
We guarantee that your cover can be renewed up to the age of 100. Your premium will only be adjusted based on your age no matter how much you claim after your policy is in effect3.
Prescribed Diagnostic Imaging Tests Benefit
This Plan covers up to HKD20,000 per year towards prescribed diagnostic imaging tests such as MRI and CT scans4.
Prescribed Non-surgical Cancer Treatments Benefit
This benefit includes up to HKD80,000 per year in prescribed treatments for cancer such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and hormonal therapy.
Psychiatric Treatments Benefit
To support mental health, this Plan covers up to HKD30,000 per year in psychiatric treatment during hospitalisation in Hong Kong.
Eligible for Tax Deduction
This Plan is certified as VHIS compliant. You can claim a tax deduction on qualifying premiums up to a limit of HKD8,000 per insured person each year5.

Application Eligibility / Requirement
  • This Plan is only available for Hang Seng Bank customers.
  • As a policy holder, you must be aged 18 or older.
  • You and your family members can enrol from age 15 days to 80 years6 (inclusive) at policy commencement.
  • You can settle the premiums by setting up autopay from your Hang Seng bank account or Hang Seng credit card account.

      • (1)Subject to eligibility of the related expenses and the annual limit. For psychiatric treatment, the territorial scope of cover is Hong Kong. Please refer to the Policy and Benefit Information for details.
      • (2) Unknown pre-existing conditions and congenital conditions with symptoms appearing or diagnosed after age 8 are covered subject to the waiting period and reimbursement percentage as follows:
        • First Policy Year: no coverage
        • Second Policy Year: 25% reimbursement
        • Third Policy Year: 50% reimbursement
        • Fourth Policy Year onwards: full coverage
      • (3) Bupa guarantees that your cover can be renewed up to the age of 100 as long as you meet the requirements as stated in the renewal provisions of your policy terms and conditions. Bupa reserves the right to amend the premium, benefits, terms and conditions upon policy renewal.
      • (4) Subject to 30% coinsurance. Coinsurance means the percentage of eligible expenses that must be paid by the policy holder.
      • (5) Any taxpayer who has purchased an eligible health insurance plan (certified by the Food and Health Bureau as VHIS) can claim a tax deduction on qualifying premiums up to HKD8,000 per insured person each year. The relationship between the taxpayer and the insured person must be included in the list of “specified relatives” in the Inland Revenue (Amendment)(No. 8) Ordinance 2018 (which may change from time to time). The deduction is available for certified plans with policy effective date of 1 April 2019 or later. There is no limit on the number of insured persons and/or policies claimed by each taxpayer. Policies purchased for a domestic partner, grandchildren or domestic partner’s parents/children are not eligible for tax deduction. Please click here for details about tax deduction.
      • (6) Eligible family members include the policy holder’s spouse, domestic partner, children, parents, parents-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren and domestic partner’s parents/children.

This Plan is underwritten by Bupa (Asia) Limited (“Bupa”) which is authorized and regulated by the Insurance Authority in Hong Kong. Hang Seng Bank is an insurance agent authorized by Bupa for the distribution of this Plan. Premium will be payable to Bupa upon enrolment of this Plan. Bupa would provide Hang Seng Bank the relevant commission and performance bonus in accordance to the selling of this Plan. The existing sales staff remuneration policy offered by Hang Seng Bank would take into account various aspects of the staff performance but not solely on the sales amount. In respect of an eligible dispute arising between the Hang Seng Bank and the customer out of the selling process or processing of the related transaction, Hang Seng Bank is required to enter into a Financial Dispute Resolution Scheme process with the customer; however any dispute over the policy terms or performance (claims and service) of the product should be resolved directly between Bupa and the customer.
