Plan overview

Domestic Helper Insurance Plan ("this Plan") is underwritten by Chubb Insurance Hong Kong Limited.

This Plan offers two options including Basic Plan and Comprehensive Plan. Both options provide hospital and surgical expenses arising from accidental injury or sickness suffered by the foreign domestic helper, repatriation expenses and the legal liability of the employer under the Employees' Compensation Ordinance. Additionally, Comprehensive Plan provides all-round coverage including clinical expenses, replacement helper expenses and temporary helper allowance. 

This Plan helps employers protect themselves and their foreign domestic helpers, ensuring that they receive the necessary support in the event of an unexpected incident.

Key features

Covers against employer's liability for the accidental death or incapacity of foreign domestic helper in the course of employment, up to HKD100,000,000.

Provides up to HKD2,000 clinical expenses coverage per year, up to HKD1,000 emergency dental expenses coverage per year, and up to HKD25,000 hospitalisation and surgical expenses coverage per year.

Clinical and emergency dental is applicable to Comprehensive Plan only.

If your foreign domestic helper is unable to continue to provide their services to you due to accidental death or sickness, this Plan covers the cost of returning or repatriating their remains to their country of origin, up to a coverage limit of HKD10,000.

Covers up to HKD10,000 in financial losses resulting from any proven dishonest act committed by the foreign domestic helper.

Applicable to Comprehensive Plan only.

If your foreign domestic helper dies or becomes medically unfit due to injury or sickness, this Plan covers employment agency fees for a replacement helper up to HKD5,000.
In the event of  your foreign domestic helper’s accidental death or hospitalisation for two consecutive weeks or more, this Plan covers a maximum reimbursement of HKD 200 per day, up to 30 days, as temporary helper allowance.

Popular questions

Yes. The insured foreign domestic helper must be between the age of 18 and 60, starting on the domestic helper insurance policy effective date.

Under the current Employees' Compensation Ordinance, the employer is responsible for compensating all employees injured while arising out of and in the course of employment. However, the domestic helper insurance policy only provides coverage within Hong Kong.

No. Each domestic helper is not allowed to be covered under more than one Domestic Helper Insurance Plan. If your domestic helper is covered under more than one such policy:

  • We'll consider your domestic helper to be insured under the policy which provides the highest amount of benefit or
  • We'll consider your domestic helper to be insured under the policy which was issued first if the benefit amount is the same

In any case, we'll refund the premium paid from the commencement date, without interest, to you under the policy that is not giving coverage.

Hospitalisation and surgical expenses resulting from sickness are subject to a 14-day waiting period from the effective date of the Domestic Helper Insurance Plan.

Application

Yes. The policyholder must be the same person as the employer listed on the employment contract with the insured domestic helper.

No. This Plan only covers legally employed full-time domestic helpers from overseas, who have signed a standard Employment Contract (ID 407). You can consider taking part-time domestic helper insurance. 

Managing policy

Yes. The insured employer must inform Chubb Insurance Hong Kong Limited in writing about the changes of the insured helper's details, such as their name, identity card or passport numbers, and date of birth.

  1. The above general insurance plan ("this Plan") is underwritten by Chubb Insurance Hong Kong Limited (“Chubb”) which is authorised and regulated in Hong Kong SAR by the Insurance Authority. Chubb reserves the right of final approval of the policy issuance. Hang Seng Bank Limited ("Hang Seng Bank") is registered as an insurance agency by the Insurance Authority (License No.: FA3168) and authorised by Chubb for distribution of this Plan. This Plan is a product of Chubb and not Hang Seng Bank. Upon application to this Plan, insurance premium will be payable to Chubb, and Chubb will provide Hang Seng Bank with commission and performance bonus as remuneration for distribution of this Plan. The existing staff remuneration policy on sales offered by Hang Seng Bank takes into account various aspects of the staff performance instead of focusing solely on the sales amount.

In respect of an eligible dispute (as defined in the Terms of Reference for the Financial Dispute Resolution Centre in relation to the Financial Dispute Resolution Scheme) arising between Hang Seng Bank and the customer out of the selling process or processing of the related transaction, Hang Seng Bank is required to enter into a Financial Dispute Resolution Scheme process with the customer; however, any dispute over the contractual terms of the insurance product, underwriting, claims and policy service should be resolved directly between Chubb and the customer.
