This home insurance plan is underwritten by QBE General Insurance (Hong Kong) Limited.

It protects against damage to household contents caused by acts of God, such as typhoon, accidental water pipe burst or other covered accidents and loss. Besides, it also includes loss of rent, temporary accommodation, as well as worldwide personal liability. Optional cover of Developer’s Fixtures and Fittings is available to meet the needs of home located in newly developed buildings.

If customer holds an inforced policy of the Travelsure Protection Plan, the maximum benefit of “Worldwide All-Risks Cover for Personal Belongings” under the Home Care Plus Home Insurance Plan will even be doubled, as a free upgrade, during the insured journey.

Key features

It provides risk coverage of up to HKD1,000,000 for household contents, including damage caused by acts of God, such as typhoon, flooding, accidental water pipe burst, leading to the loss of personal valuables such as jewellery and watches.

Worldwide protection covers against loss or damage of personal belongings up to HKD30,000 per year.

“Home and Away Cover”: If customer holds an inforced policy of the Travelsure Protection Plan, the maximum benefit of “Worldwide All-Risks Cover for Personal Belongings” under the Home Care Plus Home Insurance Plan will even be doubled, as a free upgrade, during the insured journey.

This Home Insurance provides up to HKD50,000 coverage for temporary accommodation, including protection for the insured person and tenant. If the home becomes uninhabitable due to an insured incident or loss of use of a home occupied by a rent-paying tenant under a stamped tenancy agreement and up to HKD1,000,000 coverage for domestic relocations covering damage to Household Contents by professional removers in the course of removal from the insured home to any new home.

This Home Insurance provides up to HKD10,000,000 coverage to protect against the legal liability in the event of the insured or any family member’s negligence causing third-party death, bodily injury or property damage.

Optional Domestic Helper insurance cover is available to meet the needs of property holders to protect their domestic helper.

For enrolment the Plan online, your policy will be automatically renewed on a yearly basis, giving you total peace of mind.

According to the Terms and Conditions (Section 1, A & K) – Household Contents outside of Home only apply to the insured's household contents at work situation or any situation owned, occupied or rented by the insured and family members (including storage facility) within Hong Kong. The maximum limit is 10% of sum insured of household contents, subject to specified risk clause coverage.

The Worldwide Personal Liability Benefit of Homecare Plus Home Insurance Plan provides coverage up to HKD10,000,000 for the policyholder or his/her family members who are legally liable for accidents, including accidental incidents such as objects falling from height caused by negligence, and damage to shop property. Please report the incident under the Worldwide Personal Liability Benefit Cover, and QBE Hong Kong will handle it according to the policy terms. Policyholders are reminded not to admit any liability or make any offer to third parties.

Personal Accident Benefit protects the insured and/or the family members directly resulting in Bodily Injury due to an accident such as accidental explosion, accidental fire, theft, robbery or burglary happening at home (in the insured property). Accidents that occur outside of insured property are not covered under Homecare Plus Home Insurance Plan.

Homecare Plus Home Insurance Plan can protect both yours and the former tenant's decoration. If you want to protect the fixtures and fittings provided by the developer, you can choose to add Developer’s Fixtures and Fittings when you apply for the plan. You only need to pay extra HKD30 per month to enjoy this additional all-risk protection, which covers the damage to the fixtures and fittings provided by the developer due to accidents. Items in coverage are limited to flooring, skirting, wall and ceiling paint works, wall tiles, iron gate, doors, door frames, kitchen utensils, bathroom utensils and washroom utensils.

Product coverage – General

In general, all buildings aged 40 years or below can be insured though online application. For buildings over 40 years old, due to possible structural problems in the building (including known or suspected nature), detached houses or "village houses" or similar houses, please call QBE General Insurance (Hong Kong) Limited (“QBE Hong Kong”) Customer Service Hotline during office hours (852) 2828 3138 to enquire whether insurance will be accepted. If the unit gross area exceeds 5,000 square feet (with a saleable area exceeding 3,900 square feet), the premium shall be considered individually by QBE Hong Kong.

No, it only provides comprehensive protection for household contents (e.g. furniture, decoration, electrical appliances and personal belongings), excluding building structure, fixtures and fittings provided by the developer, such as floors, walls, doors and bathroom sanitary ware. Yes, but the coverage only includes the owner's home contents within the insured address, loss of alternative accommodation / rental, replacement of doors and windows, door locks and keys due to home burglary or theft, and Worldwide Personal Liability Benefit (subject to outbound travel not exceeding 30 days).

Product coverage – Property damage

Generally speaking, the water meter room belongs to the public area of ​​the building, and most buildings have property insurance to protect public property and facilities. If the individual water pipes in the water meter room belong to the insured property, the legal liability claims issue is generally covered under Worldwide Personal Liability Benefit, in case the water leakage causes damage to the property of the building.

 

Policyholders should submit a claim declaration online through eClaims of QBE Hong Kong. The Claims requests will be handled according to the policy terms. Policyholders are reminded not to admit any liability or make any offer to third parties.

The legal liability arising from the property damage of buildings or other units caused by an accidental bursting of pipes within the insured property can generally be covered under the Worldwide Personal Liability Benefit.

Generally speaking, if the water pipes outside the insured property belong to the insured property, and the policyholder is liable to the relevant incident, it can generally be covered under the Worldwide Personal Liability Benefit coverage.

If exterior wall water pipes bursting or typhoon / windstorms caused accidental damages to the windows of the insured property, resulting in gaps in windows that allow water or rainwater to enter the property and cause water damage to the home contents, the damage will be covered by the household contents benefits. The maximum claim amount per occurrence is HKD500,000 of Standard Plan or HKD1,000,000 of Premium Plan.

 

If a window is damaged by a typhoon / windstorm, resulting in injury to passers-by, the Worldwide Personal Liability Benefit of Homecare Plus Home Insurance Plan provides up to HKD10,000,000 for the insured or his/her family members to be legally liable due to the relevant accident.

 

However, please note that according to the exclusions in Section 1 of the policy, QBE Hong Kong will not cover property damages caused by water seepage from external walls or windowsills due to disrepair or structural defects.

 

As for damaged windows, no claims will be paid no matter they have been replaced in the past; claims for damages to the windows is limited to the replacement of damaged windows after a burglary, theft or any attempted burglary incident in the home, with reasonable expenses required.

 

If the pipes located on exterior walls of the insured property are damaged, as external pipes are classified as structural part of the building, no claims will be paid by QBE Hong Kong for restoration of the damaged pipes. The cost of repairing the pipes should be paid by the policyholder.

Product coverage – Worldwide liability coverage

If the insured / family members take a pet out for a walk and it loses control, resulting in death or bodily injured a passerby, the Worldwide Personal Liability Benefit in the Homecare Plus Home Insurance Plan covers the potential liability with a limit up to HKD10,000,000 per year.

If the insured address does not include the rooftop or garden, the liability for death, injury or property damage to a third party due to the negligence of the insured or his/her family is not covered. Therefore, the insured must clearly include the rooftop and garden items in the insured address to get the coverage under the Worldwide Personal Liability Benefit.

Claims and support

If the home is unoccupied for 30 consecutive days or above, no claims will be paid for the loss of household contents, unless the loss is caused by fire, lightning, explosion, earthquake, typhoon, windstorm and flood.

 

However, if the insured or his/her family members successfully apply for the Travelsure Protection Plan (including Single Trip Cover / Annual Global Cover / Annual China Cover) during the period of insurance under Homecare Plus Home Insurance, the coverage period for household contents will automatically extend to the entire journey (up to 180 days for a Single Trip, and up to 60 days for an Annual Global Cove / Annual China Cover).

No, you can only claim either actual loss of rent or alternative accommodation arranged to the tenant whichever is lower.

You can submit it online through eClaims of QBE Hong Kong.

You will receive a confirmation email with a claim reference number assigned to your case. If your claim relates to damage to home building structure (such as ceiling and floor) and choose panel contractor of QBE Hong Kong Limited for repair, the adjuster will contact you within 4 working hours after your submission and arrange an onsite visit with panel contractor to inspect the extent of damage and evaluate repair costs.

 

The adjuster will then assess the claim as soon as possible after completing surveying. After passing it to claims team of QBE Hong Kong for approval, loss adjuster will advise you the assessment result shortly. You only need to pay whatever is not covered under the policy and wait for the reimbursement from the insurance company according to the coverage of the policy, instead of paying the whole bill.

 

The panel contractor arranged by QBE Hong Kong will proceed with the repair work after you have confirmed all the information is accurate. Once the repair work is completed, you will be asked to sign a form of satisfaction and pay the excess / uncovered items under the policy (if any).

  1. The above general insurance plan ("Plan") is underwritten by QBE General Insurance (Hong Kong) Limited which is authorised and regulated in Hong Kong by the Insurance Authority.
