Plan overview

Our Travelsure Protection Plan (“Travel Insurance”) provides Single Trip Cover, Annual Global Cover and Annual China Cover to meet your different travel insurance needs. It also offers comprehensive protection against trip cancellation or delay, participating in winter and water sports and more.

This Travel Insurance is underwritten by QBE General Insurance (Hong Kong) Limited.

Key features

This Travel Insurance covers the medical expenses and emergency assistance costs arising from sickness or accident during the trip include:

  1. Overseas hospital admittance deposit guarantee up to HKD20,000;
  2. Hospital cash benefit for hospitalisation for more than 24 hours (Not applicable to Plan A of Annual China Plan);
  3. Expenses of follow-up treatment due to sickness or insured accidental bodily injury during the trip within 3 months after returning to Hong Kong;
  4. Additional reasonable accommodation and travel expenses for travelling dependents returning to Hong Kong in advance, or visiting close relatives, or incurred as a result of death or sudden illness of close relatives;
  5. Accidental death, loss of limb(s), eyesight, hearing, speech or permanent total disablement; and
  6. Cash relief benefit to next of kin of the deceased in the event of sickness or accidental death.

This Travel Insurance covers

  1. Loss of cash, travellers cheques, etc.;
  2. Cost of replacing travel documents, identity card, credit card or driving license; and 
  3. Loss of credit card leading to unauthorised use of credit card (Losses must be reported to the police within 24 hours).

This Travel Insurance covers damaged baggage, lost baggage and personal items during the trip.

The plan covers emergency purchase of essential items upon temporary deprivation of baggage for at least 10 hours from the time of arrival at destination abroad for the Insured Person due to hijacking or airline mishandling.

Travel delay

The plan offers

  1. Compensation for delay of scheduled aircraft, sea vessel, or train; or
  2. Reimbursement for the irrecoverable loss of pre-paid or reasonable and necessary additional expenses incurred in hotel accommodation in the event of travel delay outside Hong Kong for more than 24 consecutive hours;

or

Re-routing

  1. Loss of travelling expenses, or additional charges incurred by the Insured Person due to re-routing caused by the delay of scheduled aircraft, sea vessel or train for at least 8 hours, or
  2. Additional travel costs and accommodation expenses necessarily incurred as a direct consequence of the issuance of the Black Alert for the country / region of planned destination if the Insured Person has to re-route to get to alternative destination or return to Hong Kong after the Insured Person has commenced the Journey.

(Compensation for only one of the above and applicable to Single Trip / Annual Global Plan only)

This Travel Insurance offers reimbursement of all the paid and irrecoverable expense for tours, air tickets or hotel accommodation arising from trip cancellation due to specific events.

This Travel Insurance offers reimbursement for insurance excess paid due to loss or damage to a rental vehicle rented or hired by the Insured Person during the road trip Journey.

Travelsure Protection Plan – Single Trip Cover

Ms. Leung slipped in the lift lobby of her block on the evening before departure. She went on with her trip in the belief that the injury was minor.

  1. Before the trip

    She applied for Travelsure Protection Plan – Single Trip Cover

  2. On arrival at her travel destination, Korea

    • She saw a doctor and found the injury was actually rather severe
    • She had to get back Hong Kong for immediate medical treatment
  3. When waiting for the flight back to Hong Kong at the airport

    Her mobile phone and tablet computer were stolen

  4. When the insurance is successfully claimed

    Her following losses were substantially offset:

    • medical expenses in Korea
    • non-refundable prepaid cost of booked holidays arising from the trip curtailment
    • extra travelling expenses for medical repatriation
    • follow up medical treatment in Hong Kong
    • the loss of her mobile phone and tablet computer

Travelsure Protection Plan – Annual Global Cover

Ms. Chau was to take off for a trip, but had to cancel it due to the sudden death of an immediate family member from an acute disease.

    She applied for Travelsure Protection Plan - Annual Global Cover.

    • She suffered for the loss of the loved one.

    She was fully compensated for the non-refundable prepaid cost of the air tickets and hotel accommodation.

The payment was directly credited through autopay into her designated bank account

Eligibility

  • This Policy is only valid for travel originating from Hong Kong.
  • The insured age of Travelsure Protection Plan - Single Trip Cover has no upper limit and Annual Trip Cover is available to person who is aged under 75 (at the policy start date).

FAQs
(for Single Trip & Annual Global cover)

The period of insurance for annual cover is one year. Under annual cover, the maximum cover period for each journey is up to 60 days, while there is no limit on the number of journeys during the covered year. The longest period of insurance for a Single Trip cover is 6 months.

Single trip cover: The age of the insured, spouse, friend or relative must be 18 or above (at the departure date), while the age of the children must be under 18.

Annual global cover: The age of the insured, spouse or parents must be between 18 and 74 (at the policy start date), while the age of the children must be under 18.

Points to note when applying for children under 18 years of age:

  • Children under 18 years old must apply together with parent(s) when applying via Hang Seng Mobile Application, Hang Seng Personal e-Banking, or hangseng.com
  • Should a customer wish to individually apply for their child(ren) (i.e. Parent(s) not travelling together on the trip or child(ren) not applying together with parent(s)), parent(s) or custodian is required to apply by submitting an application form either by email or mail (Form download: https://www.hangseng.com/en-hk/personal/forms/). Insured persons under the age of 18 will receive the same benefits other than the accidental death benefit of HKD100,000.

Prior to the expiry of the cover period, you can entrust a relative in Hong Kong to apply to QBE General Insurance (Hong Kong) Limited for the extension at any Hang Seng Bank branches. Only when the application has been approved and the premium for the extended period has been paid will the policy be effective.

Yes, Travel Insurance is designed for people going abroad as a visitor or on business trip. The coverage scope is quite different from a life insurance plan.

No, application for the Travelsure Protection Plan due to emigration will not be accepted, or the policy will become invalid when you emigrate to an overseas country / territory.

No, you should submit your claim to the Travel Industry Compensation Fund for compensation.

No, the cancellation of the journey as a result of administration arrangements of the airline company or travel agency are not covered by the Travel Insurance.

The travel warning issued by the World Health Organisation against a certain country or region shall have no bearing upon the protection provided by this plan; but it is suggested that the insured should closely observe the development of the relevant situation as the orders promulgated subsequently by the government may affect the insured's journey and the protection under this plan.

No. The Travelsure Protection Plan does not cover injury or death caused by any manual labour work. Therefore, you should approach your other insurer who issued the employee insurance for this maid for extension of the protection to overseas work.

In the event of necessary and unavoidable trip cancellation of booked holidays due to unexpected outbreak of natural disaster (means earthquake, typhoon, landslide, lightning, volcanic eruption, tsunami, hurricane or sandstorm) at the planned destination arising within one week before the departure date of the journey, the Travel Insurance will pay the Insured Person the loss of irrecoverable tour and booked holidays paid in advance or contracted to be paid.

If Hong Kong SAR Government issues a "Travel Alert" for the country / region of planned destination at least one day after the day on which the Policy is issued or the date which the Booked Holidays is billed (whichever is later), Insured Person covered by the insurance can enjoy policy extensions. View details.

FAQs

(for Annual China Plan) 

There is no limit on the number of journeys to mainland China (excluding Hong Kong SAR) and Macau SAR within the period of insurance under the plan. However, please note that the coverage for each journey is up to 60 days only.

  1. You may check with our 24-hour emergency service for the information about Designated Hospitals at your destination before each journey.
  2. In case of emergency, you may present the following documents to the admission staff upon arrival to the Designated Hospital:
    • China Medical Card;
    • Identity/Travel document with your photo attached thereon, namely ID, Re-entry Permit or other relevant travel documents.
  3. You will be admitted, and the hospital will notify our 24-hour emergency centre.
  4. Upon identity verification, our emergency centre shall provide guarantee of the hospital admittance deposit.
  5. When the diagnosis is yet to be confirmed to be covered under the Policy, you or your representative may be required to sign a letter of undertaking.

 

From Guangdong, Beijing and Shanghai to the remote areas like Tibet and Inner Mongolia, the China Medical Card covers over 200 medical facilities.

Yes. The China Medical Card is a facility to enable customers to enjoy more efficient hospital admission at the Designated Hospitals. As long as the condition is covered under the policy, you could still enjoy the insurance protection when admitted to non-designated hospitals. However, please note that the guarantee of hospital admittance deposit in the case for admission to non-designated hospitals is up to HKD20,000 only. Moreover, you have to obtain the original copy of hospital/ medical receipt with the diagnosis certified by the attending doctor and settle the medical expenses first, and file a claim upon returning to Hong Kong.

The China Medical Card is applicable to hospital admission only. If you only visit out-patient clinics, you should follow the general claims procedures: pay the consultation fee, get the receipt and medical certificate, and file a claim upon returning to Hong Kong. The treatment must be provided by the legally registered medical practitioner.

Under the Plan A of the Annual China Cover, if the customer sustains bodily injury caused by an assault during a robbery while traveling in mainland China (excluding Hong Kong SAR) or Macau SAR leading to death or permanent disability, the original HKD200,000 Personal Accident benefit will be doubled to HKD400,000.

For hospitalisation case, you need to present the China Medical Card so as to be eligible for the fast-track admission service. Otherwise you will have to pay first and file claim or contact our 24-hour emergency service for assistance.

Yes, but you shall report to the Company within 48 hours and submit the card replacement request in writing together with a card replacement fee of HKD100 to QBE General Insurance (Hong Kong) Limited.
