Be vigilant! Fraudsters may use telemarketing calls or social media platforms to entice you with quick money offers, encouraging you to sell or lend your bank account(s) or misuse your personal information for account opening. This could lead to fraud or money laundering activities, and upon conviction, the maximum penalty is a fine of HKD5 million and 14 years imprisonment. View more security tips
Fraudsters may pose as staff from telecom companies, online shopping sites or payment platforms and falsely claim that you've ordered items or like premium are due. If you ask to cancel, they'll connect you to a fake bank hotline or instruct you to complete the cancellation via ATMs. Fraudsters will also pretend to be online buyers / sellers and send you fake links for collection or payment.
Make sure to verify the caller's number and identity through official channels, and don't hastily send money or disclose personal details and sensitive information such as One-Time Passwords to unknown persons.
