For time deposit instructions submitted outside the transaction time (Sunday, Hong Kong public holidays, holidays of the country or region where the currency is issued, and non-clearing days due to adverse weather conditions such as typhoon signals or rainstorm warnings), they'll be processed on the next working day.

If the maturity date or interest payment date fall on a non-clearing day, such as:

  • Sunday
  • Hong Kong public holidays
  • Holidays of the country or region where the currency is issued
  • Non-clearing days due to adverse weather conditions such as typhoon signals or rainstorm warnings

The principal and interest will be paid on the next clearing day, with the interest being paid up to, but excluding that day, based on the contractual interest rate.

You can choose the following types of maturity instructions:

  • Full renewal: to renew both principal and interest for a specific period
  • Renew principal and credit interest: to renew principal only, the interest will be credited to a specific account
  • Add specific amount to principal: A fixed amount will be added to the principal for each renewal
  • Deduct specific amount from principal: A fixed amount will be deducted from the principal for each renewal
  • Uplift both principal and interest: to uplift the deposit by crediting both principal and interest to a specific account

You can amend the instruction at least one working day (before 7:55 p.m. from Monday to Friday and before 4:55 p.m. on Saturday) before the maturity date via Personal e-Banking or Hang Seng Mobile App.

Please note that if you choose an auto-renew maturity instruction, your deposit will continue to be renewed automatically at our prevailing board rates upon maturity until you change the maturity instruction.

At the request of the depositor, we may, at our discretion, allow the uplift of time deposit before maturity (not applicable to ZAR and THB Time Deposits) and reserve the right not to pay interest on the deposit and to charge a handling fee.

Risk Disclosure(s)

  1. RMB Currency Risk
Renminbi ("RMB") is subject to exchange rate risk. Fluctuation in the exchange rate of RMB may result in losses in the event that the customer subsequently converts RMB into another currency (including Hong Kong Dollars). Exchange controls imposed by the relevant authorities may also adversely affect the applicable exchange rate. RMB is currently not freely convertible and conversion of RMB may be subject to certain policy, regulatory requirements and/or restrictions (which are subject to changes from time to time without notice). The actual conversion arrangement will depend on the policy, regulatory requirements and/or restrictions prevailing at the relevant time.
  2. Foreign Currency Risk
Foreign exchange involves exchange rate risk. Fluctuations in the exchange rate of a foreign currency may result in gains or loss of principal in the event that the customer converts the deposits from HKD or foreign currency to another currency.
